About the Role
Amgen is seeking a Specialist Software Engineer – ICSR Processing to develop and implement next-generation safety platforms and supporting technologies. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying complex software applications while mentoring junior developers. You will work closely with business stakeholders to create high-quality, scalable, and maintainable solutions for pharmacovigilance systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy applications supporting pharmacovigilance systems.
- Enhance end-to-end (E2E) data reconciliation to ensure consistency and accuracy across adverse event and product complaint systems.
- Develop innovative solutions using generative AI, including large language models (LLMs) like OpenAI GPT, to enhance decision-making and drive efficiency.
- Utilize rapid prototyping skills to translate concepts into working code quickly.
- Conduct code reviews to maintain code quality and adherence to standards.
- Create and maintain documentation for software architecture, design, deployment, disaster recovery, and operations.
- Identify and resolve technical challenges effectively.
- Stay informed about industry developments and emerging trends in software engineering and pharmacovigilance systems.
- Work with stakeholders to identify and prioritize system enhancements and new functionalities.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements within the drug safety ecosystem.
- Ensure adherence to Information Systems Change Control and GxP validation processes.
- Collaborate with delivery and platform teams to align applications with approved architectural and development guidelines.
- Stay updated on market trends and developments in web application frameworks and emerging technologies.
- Support technical root cause analysis and collaborate with vendors to resolve pharmacovigilance system issues.
Qualifications & Experience
Basic Qualifications
- Master’s degree with 4–6 years of experience in Computer Science, Software Development, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree with 6–8 years of experience.
- Diploma with 10–12 years of experience.
Must-Have Skills
- Proficiency in SQL, Databricks, and data modeling concepts.
- Experience with reporting tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Strong programming skills in Java or Python.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and AI/ML expertise.
- Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Natural Language Generation (NLG).
- Extensive experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Experience with API integrations (e.g., MuleSoft) and ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, Databricks).
- Understanding of ITIL processes and best practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
Good-to-Have Skills
- 3+ years of experience with COTS Pharmacovigilance Platforms (e.g., Argus) or other safety databases.
- Experience managing GxP systems and implementing GxP projects.
- Cloud technology expertise (AWS, Azure).
- DevOps experience.
- SAFe Agile Software Engineering certification (preferred).
