Functional Description:

The Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) team drives profitable growth by minimizing fraud risk and maintaining industry-leading credit loss rates. Utilizing advanced tools and technology, we detect and combat fraud while ensuring a world-class customer experience. Our team leverages data and digital advancements to enhance risk management, enable commerce, and foster innovation.

Each decision we make can have far-reaching effects, especially when it impacts millions of customers. The CFR Analytics & Data Science Center of Excellence plays a critical role in leveraging data to improve risk management and support profitable business growth. From targeting the right customers for our products to optimizing their onboarding experience, our groundbreaking analytics and data science inform every decision. We are essential to American Express’s financial services operations and influence all aspects of the company.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy, and validate predictive models to support profitable decisions across risk, fraud, and marketing.
  • Gain a deep understanding of American Express’s core business and decision-making levers.
  • Analyze large datasets to derive business insights and create innovative solutions.
  • Utilize the closed-loop capabilities of the Amex network to enhance decision-making.
  • Innovate by developing advanced approaches using big data and machine learning.
  • Clearly articulate and structure business findings for leadership and key partners.
  • Stay informed about developments in Finance, Payments, and Analytics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 0-30 months of experience in analytics and big data workstreams.
  • Proven ability to drive project deliverables and achieve business results.
  • Effective team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Innovative problem solver with a quick learning curve, able to work independently on complex initiatives.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional business partners worldwide.
  • Proficiency in SAS, R, Python, Hive, Spark, SQL.
  • Experience with unsupervised and supervised techniques: active learning, transfer learning, neural models, decision trees, reinforcement learning, graphical models, Gaussian processes, Bayesian models, Map Reduce techniques, and feature engineering.
  • Strong coding and algorithmic skills with expertise in high-performance computing.
