Role Overview:
Barclays is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer (Site Reliability Engineer) to lead the advancement of our systems' reliability, performance, and scalability. In this role, you’ll apply modern engineering practices to automate operations, manage infrastructure, and support high-performance applications. You’ll collaborate with multiple teams, champion best practices, and help deliver cutting-edge technology to millions of users.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure availability, scalability, and reliability of core systems through proactive performance tuning and capacity planning.
Investigate and resolve incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive solutions.
Automate infrastructure and deployment processes using custom scripts and modern tools.
Monitor system health and performance metrics to identify bottlenecks and areas for optimization.
Collaborate with development teams to embed reliability practices into the SDLC.
Lead system deployments, support continuous delivery pipelines, and manage infrastructure in cloud environments.
Maintain strong documentation and contribute to knowledge sharing across engineering teams.
Stay updated on industry trends and bring innovation into SRE practices.
Technical Requirements:
Strong programming skills in Java (Java 8+) with experience in desktop applications using JavaFX, Swing, or similar.
Proficiency with Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data frameworks.
Solid hands-on expertise with Oracle databases, PL/SQL, and query optimization.
Experience working with message brokers, preferably Solace PubSub+.
Strong experience with Unix/Linux systems including shell scripting, system admin, and performance tuning.
Practical knowledge of RESTful API design and deployment.
Familiarity with build tools like Maven, Gradle and version control using Git.
Understanding of concurrency, multithreading, and system performance tuning.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and containerization tools (Docker/Kubernetes).
Preferred Skills:
Experience with Angular and frontend integration.
Knowledge of JavaFX CSS, FXML, and desktop deployment tools (Install4j, jpackage).
Exposure to reactive programming (RxJava, Project Reactor).
Experience with DevOps tools and pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
Understanding of security best practices for both frontend and backend systems.
Awareness of UX/UI principles and their application in full stack environments.
