Data Interpretation
Data Interpretation
Data Interpretation is an essential component of the Reasoning Ability section of the TCS NQT (National Qualifying Test). It assesses a candidate's ability to analyse and interpret data presented in various formats, such as tables, graphs, charts, and diagrams.
In this section, candidates are provided with a set of data and a series of questions based on that data. The task is to carefully analyse the given information, interpret the data correctly, and answer the questions accordingly.
Candidates need to extract relevant information from the data, identify patterns, make comparisons, and draw logical conclusions. They must demonstrate their proficiency in data analysis, quantitative reasoning, and logical thinking to solve the questions accurately.
The Data Interpretation section evaluates a candidate's skills in understanding and utilising data to derive meaningful insights. It tests their ability to comprehend complex information, make logical connections, and apply numerical and analytical reasoning to solve problems.
Success in the Data Interpretation section requires strong analytical skills, numerical proficiency, and the ability to interpret and analyse data efficiently.
Example 1: The table below shows the number of vehicles produced by a car manufacturer in different years. Answer the following questions based on the data.
Year |
Number of Vehicles |
2016 |
500 |
2017 |
800 |
2018 |
1200 |
2019 |
1500 |
2020 |

- Calculate the percentage increase in vehicle production from 2016 to 2020.
- In which year did the manufacturer experience the highest growth rate?
- Calculate the average number of vehicles produced per year.
Example 2: The table below displays the scores obtained by five students in different subjects. Answer the following questions based on the data.
